Wright Named Champion At Hesston

Lady Patriot Kayla Wright went 3-0 at the Hesston Invitational last Saturday, December 9, to claim championship honors in her weight bracket to kick off the season. Wright, a senior, pinned all three of her opponents. Also representing West Elk was Marisa Ghramm.

Following are the individual match results for West Elk Lady Wrestlers:

115 Girls:

Marisa Ghramm (1-4) placed 5th. She lost by fall to Echo Clark Pavlovich (Smoky Valley) 4-1 (Fall 2:31); won a 5-4 decision over Adalley Provo (Halstead) 1-9; lost a 4-6 decision to Sierra Eastman (Burden-Central) 2-3; lost by fall to Ava Thumann (Belleville-Republic County) 3-4 (Fall 2:53); and lost by fall to Anissa Robinson (Maize) 8-0 (Fall 0:33).

125 Girls: Kayla Wright (4-0) placed 1st. She received a bye; won by fall over McKenna Steadman (Team X (unafilliated)) 0-3 (Fall 0:50); won by fall over Peyton McClellan (Cheney) 5-4 (Fall 1:41); won by fall over Taytum Reed (Smoky Valley) 8-4 (Fall 3:25); and won by fall over Kaydence Shelly (Bell eville-Republic County) 7-3 (Fall 3:17).

The Patriots were scheduled to travel to Erie for dual action with the Red Devils and the Fredonia Yellowjackets on Tuesday, December 12. West Elk will compete at the Hillsboro Dual Tournament on Friday, December 15. This will be their final outing before the winter break. They will return to action on Friday, January 6, at 9 a.m., in Burlington.
