The Greenwood County 4-H Achievement Banquet celebrating the 2022-2023 4-H year, was held at the Hamilton School Gymnasium on Tuesday, November 28, where 4-H members and 4-H supporters received recognition.
The initials for the 4-H clubs are Fall River 55ers, FR55; Fancy Mustangs, FM; Harmony Sunflowers, HS; Madison Pacesetters, MPS; Racing Wranglers, RW; and Willow Valley Go-Getters, WVGG.
Top three record books for the county were: 1st: Lyle Perrier (RW) - Beef; 2nd: Caylin Luthi (MPS) - Leadership; 3rd: Brooke Gaines (MPS) – Meat Goats. The following fair winners were also recognized: High Point Girl: Sydney Lindamood (FM); High Point Boy: Henry Lindamood (FM).
The Alumni Award recognizes a former 4-Her who continues to be involved and helpful in the 4-H program. This year’s Alumni Award recipient was Deb Burtin, a lifelong Greenwood County resident. Burtin served as the Harmony Sunflowers 4-H Club leader for several years and also held the title of project leader.
Three county 4-Hers were recipients of the 4-H Key Award. Sponsored by Frontier Farm Credit, the Kansas Key Award is one of the highest honors awarded to 4-H members across Kansas. When applying for the award, applicants highlight 4-H related events, activities, and achievements accomplished within their 4-H Club, the county, region, or state. They receive the award when all criteria are met, with it taking most of their 4-H career to do so. Accomplishment is based primarily on leadership and project achievement. This award was presented to Lyle Perrier, Corinne Nelson and Brooke Gaines.
The Fancy Mustangs, Harmony Sunflowers, Madison Pacesetters and Racing Wranglers 4-H clubs received a purple for their club seals and Willow Valley Go-Getters received a white for their club seal. Pins and certificates were awarded for completion of 4-H Project Record Books for individual 4-H projects. An ( ★ ) denotes senior project winners that may apply for area consideration. Achievement pins are awarded based on membership and participation.
