Numerous Accidents And Fire Kept First Responders Busy Over The Weekend

A total of 10 accident reports were taken between Friday, November 24 and Monday morning keeping law enforcement busy over the holiday weekend. Five vehicle/deer accidents alone were reported last Friday, before the snow began to fall. However, areas saw more than five inches of snowfall on Saturday causing poor road conditions.

A total of 10 accident reports were taken between Friday, November 24 and Monday morning keeping law enforcement busy over the holiday weekend. Five vehicle/deer accidents alone were reported last Friday, before the snow began to fall. However, areas saw more than five inches of snowfall on Saturday causing poor road conditions.

On Sunday morning, shortly after midnight, first responders were dispatched to a fire in Virgil and a vehicle rollover accident approximately two miles east of the Butler/ Greenwood County line.

According to Greenwood County Fire Chief Glen Collinge, Greenwood County Fire - Virgil Division was on scene shortly after the page and was able to contain the fire. Chief Collinge stated that Hamilton and Virgil Fire Divisions responded to the struc-ture fire at 2844 EE50 Road and remained on scene for two and a half hours. According to Collinge, the fire began in the wall, near the fireplace and was reported at 12:04 a.m. Occupants smelled smoke, called 9-1-1 and began working to extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported. The cabin is owned by the Dopps Family.

As fire crews were extinguishing the fire, Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office deputies and a second EMS unit responded to a single vehicle rollover, at 12:06 a.m., near the 322 mile marker. According to Greenwood County Sheriff Heath Samuels, Alex Kuhlman, 36, of Ness City lost control and rolled into the ditch. Kuhlman was transported by Greenwood County EMS to Wesley Medical Center, in Wichita.

The other nine accidents reported were non-injury.
