Greenwood County Historical Society Recognized By State Officials

Officials of the Kansas Historical Society visited the Greenwood County Historical Society on Monday, October 30. Patrick Zollner, Executive Director, was joined by two other Society representatives, Ashley Wunder and Kim Korber. During the afternoon, the group shared updates from the State, toured the museum, enjoyed a school district presentation, learned about the society’s history, heard updates on local initiatives and had an opportunity to visit at a reception with board members, local officials and others.

Officials of the Kansas Historical Society visited the Greenwood County Historical Society on Monday, October 30. Patrick Zollner, Executive Director, was joined by two other Society representatives, Ashley Wunder and Kim Korber. During the afternoon, the group shared updates from the State, toured the museum, enjoyed a school district presentation, learned about the society’s history, heard updates on local initiatives and had an opportunity to visit at a reception with board members, local officials and others.

The Greenwood County Historical Society was recognized with two certificates by Executive Director Zollner. President Mike Pitko accepted recognition in honor of the Society’s 50th Anniversary milestone. Greenwood County Historical Society project team members Bills, Gib Rhodes and Linda Sobieski were also recognized for their extraordinary achievement in researching, documenting and presenting information on Greenwood County school districts.

Monday evening, October 30, the Greenwood County Historical Society presented information on the 1935 Works Program Administration program. Board member John Bills showed a movie on the construction of Eureka Lake. This film was made in 1935 and 1936 by Eureka resident Ed Ladd. Bills shared that the construction of the lake was a Work Projects Administration (WPA) Project. He also shared information about other WPA projects in the Greenwood County and neighboring counties areas.
