Larry Paul Lawrence of Eureka, died on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at Greenwood County Hospital, in Eureka, at the age of 81. He was born on July 10, 1942, in Toronto, the son of Paul Henry and Gertrude Lucille (Ward) Lawrence. He was raised around Greenwood County, graduating from Tonovay High School. After his schooling, he served in the United States Army National Guard with honor and dignity. He was honorably discharged in 1962.
In 1964, Larry was united in marriage to Glenda Sue Kamstra. They made their home in various cities around Kansas. To this union, four children were born. This marriage later ended in divorce. Larry worked mostly as a mechanic, as well as farming and ranching. For a time, he drove a truck and also worked in aircraft manufacturing in Wichita. He retired in the mid-2000s from the Greenwood County Shop where he was their mechanic. In 1996, he became reacquainted with Cindy Collins, who has been his significant partner ever since, with Larry becoming a father to Cindy’s daughter.
Larry loved hunting and fishing and generally being outdoors. He kept himself busy later in life doing what he wanted to do. He will be remembered for his ornery streak and his eagerness to help others.
He is survived by his companion of 27 years, Cindy Collins of the home; five children, Randy and wife, Gloria Lawrence of Marysville, Wash.; Terresa and husband, Roy Bruning of Atwood; Michael and wife, Yolanda Lawrence of Canyon, Texas; Tammy and husband, Gary Murphy of Eureka; and Glenda and husband, Rob Graves of Meadville, Mo.; 25 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and four siblings: Arlene Scronce of Haviland; Linda and husband, Dean Winters of Towanda; Ron and wife, Glenna Lawrence of Independence; and Jim Lawrence of Eureka. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Elbert Henry Lawrence and Carl David Lawrence; and an infant granddaughter, Regan Vegas.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, December 1, at Koup Family Funeral Home, Eureka, with Pastor Kevin Lawrence of the Climax United Methodist Church officiating. Cremation has been effected. A family inurnment will follow at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery, Eureka.
