The Hamilton USD 390 Board of Education met on Wednesday, November 8 for their regular monthly meeting. The following report was generated from the unofficial minutes, which are subject to board approval: Members present included: Brad Martin, Kara Nutsch, Mike Mallek, Dee Elliott and Stuart Woodie. Doug Rayburn was absent. Others attending the meeting were Superintendent Mike Ronen, Principal Stephanie Nelson, Clerk Claudia Deeder, Lisa Ballard, Rochell Butler, Linda Snyder and Shannon Spradlin.

Doug Rayburn was absent. Others attending the meeting were Superintendent Mike Ronen, Principal Stephanie Nelson, Clerk Claudia Deeder, Lisa Ballard, Rochell Butler, Linda Snyder and Shannon Spradlin.

President Mallek called the meeting to order at 7 p.m., following with those in attendance participating in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Woodie moved and Martin seconded to approve the agenda as presented. The vote was 5-0, motion carried.

Elliott moved and Nutsch seconded to approve the Consent Agenda, including minutes of the regular meeting held October 11, Treasurer’s Report, List of Warrants, Activity Fund Reports, and Petty Cash Fund Report. The vote was 5-0, motion carried.

Elliott moved and Martin seconded to join the Emporia Foundation Community Foundation to assist in managing grants and donations.

Snyder and Spradlin were present to express their interest in becoming board members. Both individuals addressed the board. No action was taken.

Principal Stephanie Nelson reported on the following activities going on at the school: Junior High Basketball; Elementary Honor Roll; CPR training for Freshman, Seniors, and Staff and First Aid for staff; First responder’s breakfast; SAFE (Seat belts Are For Everyone) activities; and ROAR after school program.

Nelson also presented the following upcoming activities: Veterans day assembly on November 9, Earth balloon November 14, Thanksgiving Lunch November 16 at noon, ROAR Family Night November 21 at 5:30 p.m., and Kansas Education Commissioner Dr. Randy Watson visit on November 27.

Ballard and Butler presented their classrooms to the board and all of the exciting activities going on.

Superintendent Ronen gave an update on KESA and also discussed the March Board of Education meeting and the unofficial votes for board members.

There was no patron or staff input.

In old business, the board discussed getting brighter lights in the gym and the gravel roads around the school. No action was taken.

The board discussed the sports agreement with Madison. This item was tabled with no action taken.

The KSDE audit was done in October. The final report will be presented at the December board meeting.

Woodie moved and Elliott seconded to adopt HB 2138 as USD 390 Accommodations Policy in order to define how the district will assign hotel accommodations. The vote was 5-0 motion carried.

The board discussed the open enrollment policy and process. No action was taken.

Following a 30-minute executive session, to discuss certified teacher evaluations, Elliott moved and Woodie seconded to accept the teacher evaluations as presented. The vote was 5-0, motion carried.

Elliott moved and Woodie seconded to accept Brenda Fox’s retirement effective at the end of FY24 school year.

Martin moved and Elliott seconded to adjourn the meeting at 9:38 p.m. The vote was 5-0, motion carried.
