Veterans Day Celebration Planned

Special assemblies have been scheduled later this week to honor community veterans and currently enlisted personnel.

The first assembly will be held on Thursday, November 9 in Hamilton; with additional events being held on Friday, November 10, in both Eureka and Madison. The local VFW Post will also hold a special ceremony on Saturday, November 11.

Hamilton High School Hamilton High School will host a Veterans Day Assembly on Thursday, November 9, at 11 a.m., in the school gymnasium. All military and their families are invited to join Hamilton students for lunch.

Marshall Elementary School

On Friday, November 10, Marshall Elementary School in Eureka will host an event, beginning at 9 a.m. Community Veterans are asked to gather in the commons area starting at 8:45 a.m. Veterans, sixth grade parents and community members are invited to attend.

All veterans are encouraged to attend the assembly and are asked to wear any or all of their service uniform along with any medals they have received. For more information call 620-583-5537.

West Elk Patriots

On Friday, November 10, the West Elk Patriots will host a special Veterans Day celebration. From 9-10 a.m., refreshments will be served and student work will be on display for viewing. A school assembly will be held from 10-11 a.m.

Madison High School

Madison High School will host their annual Veterans Day Assembly on Friday, November 10, at 1:30 p.m., in the main gymnasium. All Veterans and families are invited and encouraged to attend.

VFW Post #2712

A small ceremony will be held on Saturday, November 11, at 11 a.m. at the Veteran’s Memorial, weather permitting, located between 4th and 5th Streets on Main, in Eureka. Those attending are invited to a free bean feed held at the VFW 2712 Hall after the service. Free will donations will be accepted. Covered dishes are also appreciated. Closures

In observance of Veterans Day, the following offices will be closed on Friday, November 10: the City of Eureka offices, the Greenwood County offices, the Post Office and local banks.

The local schools and The Eureka Herald will be open as usual.
