70th Annual GSPCA National Field Championships Concluded

A total of 231 dogs ran braces during the German Shorthair Pointer Club of America (GSPCA) National Field Trials that were held at Bechtle Ranch last month. The event was the 70th annual event for GSPCA, with this being the 36th year for the event to be held in Greenwood County.

A total of 231 dogs ran braces during the German Shorthair Pointer Club of America (GSPCA) National Field Trials that were held at Bechtle Ranch last month. The event was the 70th annual event for GSPCA, with this being the 36th year for the event to be held in Greenwood County.

The largest group for the GSPCA trials were the amateurs as 75 dogs were entered in the contest. Following are the results: (Placement, Breed/Full Name “Call Name,” Handler Name, Owner Name), First Place: FC BDK’s Sam I Am “Sam,” David O’Brien; Second Place: FC AFC King Kipper MHA “Kipper,” Kevin Donohue; Third Place: O B’s Stick In The Mud “Stick,” David O’Brien; Fourth Place: FC MSR’s Kiss My Lily “Lily,” James Messer, James and Sarah Messer. The judges for the event were Joe Petroski, Mike Mullineaux and Wayne Cowles.

The Futurity had 40 entries with the contest being judged by Rodney Moon and Robert Thompson. Following are the results: (Placement, Breed/Full Name “Call Name,” Handler Name, Owner Name), First Place: Nike’s Air Jordan “JoJo,” Larry Metter; Second Place: Riden Sky High Riggs “Riggs,” Barry Bollinger, Ryan Roessel; Third Place: Tulli’s End Game “Raptor,” Joseph Amatulli; Fourth Place: BMB’s Free Gifts “Santa,” Brandon Blum, Brandon and Jennifer Blum.

A total of 46 were entered in the All-Age division of the GSPCA National Field Trials. Following are the results: (Placement, Breed/Full Name “Call Name,” Handler Name, Owner Name), First Place: Highstanding Cuttin Edge “Woody,” Dan DiMambro, Anthony and Dayna Rusciano; Second Place: Cuttin Wild’s Rebel Yell “Rebel,” Josh Nieman, Michael Patrick; Third Place: AO Keg Creek Tripps To Win “Tripp,” Josh Nieman, Alan Omar Davison; Fourth Place: The Ruger “Ruger,” Dan DiMambro, Blake Daniel. This division was judged by Ronnie Sale, Philip Mathiowetz and Jon Small.

To conclude the GSPCA trails, braces were held for the open gundog division which had 70 entries. Following are the results: (Placement, Breed/Full Name “Call Name,” Handler Name, Owner Name), First Place: GFC/FC/AFC Autry’s Natural Chromoly Steel “Molly,” Josh Nieman, Heath Autry; Second Place: FC BDK’s Sam I Am “Sam,” Keith Gulledge, David O’Brien; Third Place: Dunfur’s Tuff Dixie The Third “Dixie,” Dan Hoke, Matt and Wyatt Solt; Fourth Place: HK’s Teal Blue Blaze “Teal,” Josh Nieman, Joe Inderman. The event was judged by Diane Vater, Kevin Donohue and Robert Spillman.

Gordon Setters Club of America The Gordon Setters Club of America are currently holding their trail at Bechtel Ranch, with the last day slated to be this Sunday, November 12.

History Of Field Trials In Greenwood County In 1988, Irlene Huntington answered a newspaper ad that spurred interest, contacts were made and that fall the trials were held at the Christian Hills Camp in Eureka. They remained at that location until 2002. That same fall, Roger and Erica Bechtel made their ranch available and this national event continued in Greenwood County.
