Wade Percifield Received “Quilt of Valor”

Election day has come and gone, did you do your civic duty and vote? Voting at every level is important, especially for local elections.

We got back on the weather “rollercoaster.” There for a couple nights it got down right cold. We woke up Thursday morning and it was 48° in our house! Dang heater quit again. Wasn’t as simple as the gas being off like it was last time.

Replaced a fuse and a breaker, nothing! Then found out it was the ‘motherboard’ on Saturday morning and of course it had to be ordered. Hopefully, by the time you read this, the motherboard has gotten replaced. Thankfully, we had access to electric heaters, but am not ready for the next utility bill.

What is “heterochromia”? Hello to all in area nursing and assisted living facilities. Hello also to all in area hospitals and rehab centers.

We offer our sympathy to the families of Doris Claiborne and Harry Nordmeyer. We offer our sympathy to all others who lost loved ones this past week. May they all rest in peace.

The Toronto Library has been busy with after school programs. Stop in and check things out. Jesse has been doing a great job. If there is a book you want to read or listen to, or even a movie you’d like to see, she’s the one to see.

Answer: Heterochromia is a condition in which one eye has a different color than the other eye. Fewer than 200,000 individuals in the U.S. have this trait.

The Toronto Booster Club got a nice surprise at their monthly meeting last Wednesday evening. Elliot Hoag, a local seventh grader at Yates Center, presented a check in the amount of $2,215 for the Toronto school playground fund. Every year, for the past several years, Elliot has chosen a cause near and dear to her for her birthday. She requests no presents, instead she asks for donations to a specific cause such as the ACARF, and the Toronto Library. This year she chose the playground equipment fund to help purchase new equipment to be placed where the old school once stood.

Specifics of equipment depends on funds raised, if you would like to donate to the playground fund, check out the Toronto Booster Club Facebook page or mail donations to the Toronto Booster Club, Box , Toronto, KS 66777.

Many of you have been wondering about the playground equipment fund and as I get more information, I will keep you posted.

Wade Percifield was presented a “Quilt of Valor” last Thursday by Laura and Pete Sterling. The quilts are made by “The Quilts of Valor Foundation” as a way to thank and honor veterans. Connie Schmidt of Sew & Sew in Iola made the beautiful quilt. And it could not have come at a better time. It helped keep him warm during the nights we didn’t have a heater.
