Harry James Nordmeyer of Toronto, died on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at his home near Toronto, at the age of 81.

Harry James Nordmeyer of Toronto, died on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at his home near Toronto, at the age of 81.

He was born on May 20, 1942, in Toronto, the son of William H. and Elsie (Liebau) Nordmeyer. He was raised in Toronto and graduated from Toronto High School. After his schooling he worked on the family farm. On May 24, 1975, Harry was united in marriage to Yvonne Marie “Sis” Elliott in Greenwood County. They made their home near Toronto and Harry began farming and ranching his own property. He also did oilfield work with his brother, Ray. Together they owned and operated Nordmeyer Oil.

Harry loved animals, especially his cats and dogs. He will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather. His grandchildren called him Grandpa Grapes, because that’s what he always brought them when they visited. Sis preceded him in death on December 19, 2021.

Harry served on the rural water board. He is survived by his daughter, Mindy Nordmeyer of Wichita; three grandchildren; and two brothers, John Nordmeyer of Eureka; and Ray Nordmeyer of Toronto. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dale Nordmeyer and Willie Nordmeyer; and one sister, Iva Jean Nordmeyer.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, November 6, 2023, at the Toronto United Methodist Church, with Pastor Kevin Lawrence officiating. Interment will follow at Toronto Cemetery. Visitation hours were set from 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Heart Association. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, PO Box 595, Eureka KS 67045, which is overseeing arrangements. Condolences may be left for the family online, at koupfunerals.com.
