With a 46-22 win over Burlingame last Thursday night, the West Elk Patriot football team (8-1) will face Little River (7-2) this Friday, November 3, at 7 p.m., at home.

“We are very excited about the upcoming week! Little River is a very good football team with a strong tradition,” stated head coach Chris Haag. “We will need to have a great week of preparation. I am proud of the team and the big win against Burlingame. However, we have to continue to get better each week and look forward to the opportunity to compete this coming week,” he continued.

West Elk was first to get on the board against Burlingame, scoring on a 1-yard run by Trent Haag. However, Burlingame quickly answered back and the Patriots trailed 6-8.

The Patriots quickly answered with a 79-yard kick-off-return by Creyo Koop. The two-point conversion attempt was no good. The Patriot lead was short though, as Burlingame would add 6-points of their own before closing out the quarter.

West Elk’s T. Haag again rushed for a touchdown, this time with a six-yard run, in the second quarter to give the Patriots the lead. At halftime, the Patriots led 18-14.

First to score in the second half, and to take the lead, was Burlingame. The Patriots would respond in the third quarter with a five-yard run from Koop to retake the lead. West Elk led 24-22 going into the final quarter.

The Patriots dominated in the fourth quarter, outscoring Burlingame 22-0. All four were rushing touchdowns with Koop scoring the first three on a 5-yard, 7-yard and 22-yard rush play; with the final Patriot being a five-yard rush by Maddex Moreno. The Patriots were successful on two of the four twopoint conversion attempts. The first was a pass from Haag to Uriah Tillapuagh and a run by Koop. The Patriots won the game 46-22.
