Annual Women In Agriculture Event Held

The Greenwood County Conservation held their seventh Annual Women in Agriculture event on October 18, in Eureka. There were 31 people in attendance.

The Greenwood County Conservation held their seventh Annual Women in Agriculture event on October 18, in Eureka. There were 31 people in attendance.

David Kraft, Kansas Grazing Lands Coalition’s Executive Director, was the Key Speaker. He spoke on the past, present and future of the Flint Hills.

Keila Sherman, District Manager, gave a presentation on the history of conservation and what the district offers the community.

Marilyn Brink, local rancher, spoke about how her own small business was started and gave insights on how to begin your business.

Amy Sawyer, with Tipperary Crop Insurance, shared information on the coverage of pasture, range and forage rain insurance her company has to offer for ranchers.

Sheriff Heath Samuels enlightened the group about the process of cattle theft reports, how and why there is a need to report when livestock is out of the pastures.

Those in attendance made bracelets and pens as their activity for the day, as Leona Rose Designs brought their Bead Bar to the event.

The meal was catered and the location was provided by TNT Catering of Eureka.

The event was sponsored by KACD Kansas Association of Conservation Districts, Frontier Farm Credit of Emporia, Greenwood, Elk, Wilson and Woodson County Conservation Districts.
