The Eureka Music Club met for a business meeting and program at Christ Lutheran Church on Monday, October 9. Sheri Hall and Robin Himes served as co-hostesses. Co-President Hall conducted the monthly business meeting. The club welcomed Leeann (Saunders) McKee as a new member.
Club Members Mary Ellen Forbes and Sheryl Moody planned the October program around the theme of Music Is…Fall/ Autumn. The following musical selections were then performed by several of the club members: Jean Edwards played a piano solo of “Autumn Leaves.”
This was followed by another fall-themed song “Harvest Moon” performed by Rise Russin on the piano.
Carolyn Perrier read the poem “Songs of the Flint Hills” written by Annie Wilson, the “Flint Hills Balladeer.”
Marla DeGraffenreid shared a fall song on the piano entitled “September Song.” Moody then talked about a book she had discovered in the library highlighting 45 Years of Winfield’s Walnut Valley Festival by Bob Hamrick. The title of the book was “September Songs.”
Mary Ellen Forbes then sang a solo of a familiar Thanksgiving hymn “Come Ye Thankful People Come” accompanied by Moody.
“September in the Rain” was then performed as a piano solo by Margaret Spires.
The program was then concluded by the group singing the Reformation hymn composed by Martin Luther, “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God” with Grace Stacy accompanying on the organ, and Moody on the piano.
