Captured National Championship At 4-H Meat Judging Competition

The Kansas 4-H National Meat Judging Team captured the National Championship at the American Royal National 4-H Meat Judging competition held October 17, at Kansas State University (KSU). This is the second consecutive National Championship for the Kansas 4-H Meat Judging Team. Members of the team included Greenwood County’s own Brooke Gaines; along with Aaron Morales, West Plains District; Brady Hoffman and Tanner Hommertzheim, Sedgwick County; and Callen Smith, Barber County.

The Kansas 4-H National Meat Judging Team captured the National Championship at the American Royal National 4-H Meat Judging competition held October 17, at Kansas State University (KSU). This is the second consecutive National Championship for the Kansas 4-H Meat Judging Team. Members of the team included Greenwood County’s own Brooke Gaines; along with Aaron Morales, West Plains District; Brady Hoffman and Tanner Hommertzheim, Sedgwick County; and Callen Smith, Barber County.

The Kansas Team was 3rd in pork judging, 1st in beef judging, 2nd in retail cut judging, 1st in retail identification (with a perfect score of 900), 2nd in reasons, and 2nd in total judging to earn the Overall Champion National Team.

Individually, Hoffman was second overall, Morales was 3rd, Gaines was 5th, and Hommertzheim finished 6th. The team was coached by Stephanie Witberler and Chesney Effling, both KSU Graduate students/KSU meat team alumni.
