Celebrating 50 Years Of The Greenwood County Historical Society

To Be Recognized By The State For Five Decades

Many items chronicling the history of Greenwood County have been donated to the Greenwood County Historical Society (GWCHS) throughout the past five decades. As it celebrates 50 years, the Historical Society Museum has created new displays highlighting an assortment of artifacts as well as recognizing many of the individuals who have worked to preserve local heritage.

Two new displays focus on the people who made the Historical Society what it is today; showcasing benefactors, board members and volunteers.

GWCHS will celebrate 50 years of local heritage with an open house on October 30 at 5:30 p.m. A program on the WPA Project and the construction of Eureka Lake will follow the event. The public is invited to attend.

The Greenwood County Historical Society Museum will be closed the afternoon of October 30, prior to the open house event. During this time, in addition to preparing for the events of the evening, Patrick Zollner, head of the Kansas Historical Society, will be presenting representatives of the Historical Society with a certificate honoring 50 years of service and preservation in the community.

Regular hours for the museum are as follows: Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. The museum will be open Saturday, November 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for Cattlemen’s Day.
