– submitted by Brooke Gaines, reporter MADISON - To end the National 4-H Week celebration, the Madison Pacesetters 4-H Club took part in the Kansas 48-Hours of 4-H Service Challenge.

The Madison Pacesetters, in participation with the Kansas 48-Hours of 4-H Service Challenge and volunteerism to help their community, gathered on Sunday, October 8 at the City Island. The club members pruned bushes, cleaned up lawn debris and trash with the assistance of the Engle family and their tractor. The city island is located on Third Street across from the fire station. This island is a central source for the community to receive information and celebrate our veterans of the community.

Research has proven that participation in 4-H has a significant positive impact on young people. Recent findings from the Tufts University 4-H Study of Positive Youth Development indicate that, when compared to their peers, young people in 4-H are nearly four times more likely to contribute to their communities.

4-H is a network of families that grows great kids and it’s for Greenwood County families too. For more information about how you can get involved in 4-H, contact Ben Sims with the Greenwood County Research and Extension at 620-583-7455 or check out www.JoinKansas4H.org.
