West Elk Patriot Football Claimed District Title • To Host Burlingame This Thursday

The Patriots of West Elk earned a #1 seed in the Class 8 Player DI State Football Championships when they went undefeated in District 1. West Elk will host Burlingame (D2#4 seed) this Thursday, October 26, at 6:30 p.m.

The Patriots of West Elk earned a #1 seed in the Class 8 Player DI State Football Championships when they went undefeated in District 1. West Elk will host Burlingame (D2#4 seed) this Thursday, October 26, at 6:30 p.m.

“We are proud of our young men for winning back-to-back district titles,” stated Head Coach Chris Haag. “We will be facing a very good team in Burlingame and are excited for the opportunity to play them. Our men know what is expected of them this week and we will need to continue to strive to become a better football team. We expect to play well and are looking forward to the challenge that we will face against Burlingame,” he continued. The winner of the contest will advance to regional action on Friday, November 3.

The Patriots claimed their undefeated District title with a 71-0 victory over the Wildcats of Yates Center at halftime last Friday night.

West Elk dominated the Wildcats during the two-quarter game, tallying a total of 131 yards compared to Yates Center’s -19.

The Patriots scored on the following plays: Patriot Tyler Moore blocked a punt which was recovered in the end zone. The run by Creyo Koop was good for the two-point conversion.

West Elk’s Trent Haag connected with Uriah Tillapaugh with a 10-yard touchdown pass. The run by Maddex Moreno was good for the two-point conversion.

Koop rushed for a 22yard touchdown. The run by Evan Coble was good for the two-point conversion.

Haag connected on another 10-yard touchdown pass, this time with Martin Shipley. The point after touchdown (PAT) was good by Tillapaugh.

Christian Winter recovered a fumble and returned it 4-yards for a Patriot touchdown. The run by Koop was good for the two-point conversion.

The Patriots recorded a safety.

West Elk’s Koop had a 50-yard kick-off return. The run by Coble was good for the two-point conversion.

Garrett Usry had a 24yard interception return for a Patriot touchdown. The run by Moreno was good for the two-point conversion.

Koop rushed for 11-yards for a Patriot touchdown. The conversion attempt was no good.

Trace Toon rushed for a one-yard touchdown play. The run by Brock Baumgartel was good for the two-point conversion.
