In an effort to raise funds for their digital services budget, the Madison Public Library is teaming up with several other local organizations to provide an afternoon and evening packed with fall fun for the entire family on October 28.

The events kick off at 2 p.m. with a cornhole tournament downtown, sponsored by the Madison High School senior class. Concessions will be provided by Lamont Wesleyan Church Youth Group and there will also be a PAWS bake sale. Meanwhile, the event “candle making with Liam” will be held at the Sauder Center.

A costume contest will be held at 4 p.m. downtown, and jack-o-lantern winners will also be announced. To participate in the jack o lantern contest, bring your jack-o-lantern to City Hall at 2 p.m.

The parade is scheduled to take off at 4:45 p.m. downtown, followed by a trunk or treat at 5 p.m.

Finally, the evening will conclude with an open mic night, from 6-9 p.m. Organizers are encouraging performers ages 12 and under to sign up for the 6-7 p.m. time slot and those ages 13 and over to sign up between 7-9 p.m. This freewill donation event will be acoustic and proceeds will go to the library. A location for the event was to be determined on Monday evening. Check the library’s website (madisonkslibrary. org) for updates. Christine Inman, director of the library, explained, “The library is looking to raise $2,400 to support our digital services

budget for the coming year. This includes the online platform Hoopla. With this platform, our patrons with library cards can rent five items per month ranging from e-books to audiobooks, to music, movies, and TV free of charge to them.” She added that funds will also go towards supporting programs and outreach. “Our goal as a library is to be a community center and that means providing these resources and activities for our residents,” she added.

For questions, to sign up a vehicle for trunk or treat or register to perform during the open mic night, call the library at 620-4372634. There are also links to Google forms on the library’s Facebook page and website.
