One senior, two juniors and one sophomore from Eureka Junior/Senior High School traveled to Kansas City, Mo., over the weekend to compete in the American Royal Livestock judging contest. The Eureka FFA members, comprised of senior Lyle Perrier, juniors Corinne Nelson and TJ Mills and sophomore Hannah Perrier not only represented the local chapter, but represented the State of Kansas.

The group claimed multiple individual honors which lead to a Reserve National Championship overall. The four individuals qualified for the contest last year when they placed second at the Kansas FFA State competition.

The team began judging early Sunday morning where they placed in 10 classes and gave six sets of reasons. The results are as follows: Nelson, a junior, placed second overall, fifth in Sheep/Goat judging and fourth in oral reasons. L. Perrier, a senior, placed eighth overall and was third in cattle judging. Mills, a junior, placed first in cattle judging. H. Perrier, a sophomore, placed seventh in Swine judging. The team placed fourth in Sheep/ Goats, second in Swine, first in Cattle, and third in Reasons. These scores allowed them to take home Reserve Champion Overall at the American Royal.

With this Reserve National Champion finish, the team has the opportunity to travel to Scotland and compete in a livestock judging contest.

The Eureka FFA chapter is advised by Trint Peine.

L. and H. Perrier are the children of Matt and Amy Perrier of rural Eureka.
