Salt Creek Farm Expands To New Location, Investing in Growth and Community

Salt Creek Farm Expands To New Location, Investing in Growth and Community
Owners Sara and Jay Shivers, with their daughters Margot and Stella

Salt Creek Farm, a local business offering premium meats, honey, and local produce, recently moved to its new, larger facility. After running at full capacity for nearly a year, the family-owned farm had outgrown its Main Street Market location. The need for additional space made the search for a larger retail space a priority. The new location offers room for expansion while also bringing a commercial kitchen, more warehouse capacity, and a bigger frozen storage area—all under one roof. Since its beginning in 2017, Salt Creek Farms has built a strong foundation by wholeselling quality meat and honey products to local restaurants. Over time, they have expanded into retail sales, offering a variety of non-perishable products, gift boxes, and an online subscription service called the Farm Club. They’ve also developed a dedicated following through their brick-andmortar location, where customers can shop for fresh meats and other farm goods.

The new Salt Creek Farms location will feature an expanded market area with room to grow and the capacity to offer even more products. “Our Main Street Market location was a great place to test the local interest in our products, but we were limited on space,” said Sara Shivers, co-owner of Salt Creek Farm. “We’re excited to be able to serve our community better and provide a wider variety of products, including value-added items from our soon-to-be operational commercial kitchen.”

The team is already working hard to finish the commercial kitchen, which is expected to be operational by mid-April. The new space will allow them to produce more value- added products, such as take-and-bake meals, fresh bread, and other kitchen creations that will be available in the second half of April. Additionally, a larger walk-in freezer will be installed later this spring to store their meat products, and the new warehouse will streamline logistics for more efficient operations.

Customers will find a wide range of products available for purchase at the new location, which is set to feature:

Food Products:

Beef, lamb, pork, and chicken;

Seasonal produce;

Jerky, beef sticks, and summer sausage;

Take-and-bake meals;

Fresh breads;

Non-perishable items (pasta, rice, nut butters, seasonings, etc.)

Garden Center:

Perennials (available now)

Herbs, vegetable plants, and annuals (available now);

Easter lilies, Memorial Day planters, fall plants, and poinsettias.

Salt Creek Farm plans to have more products arriving throughout the month of April and will host a grand opening on Saturday, May 3.

While more than 85% of their revenue currently comes from outside Greenwood County, they are excited to bring their operations back to Eureka and centralize their business here. By doing so, they aim to create more jobs, expand access to quality food, and continue their tradition of providing premium garden plants.

Looking to the future, the goals for the business include: Increasing the number of restaurants served; Expanding retail partnerships and increasing the number of retailers carrying Salt Creek Farm products; Growing the value- added product production in the new kitchen; and Filling out the Salt Creek Market & Garden with even more high-quality food products and plants.

Salt Creek Farm also plans to continue fostering partnerships with local farmers and producers to ensure their customers have access to the best and most sustainable food available.

The new commercial kitchen will play a pivotal role in Salt Creek Farm’s plans to offer more takeand- bake meals and other prepared food items. The kitchen should be complete by mid-April, with fresh bread and other meals available for purchase later that month.

Salt Creek Farm is located at 609 E. River St., (formerly Eureka Garden and Floral), in Eureka. For more information call 316-323-7762 or visit their store during their business hours: Wednesday- Friday, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
