The crucifixion of Christ will be remembered during Holy Week with special services being observed by the local churches. Easter is Sunday, April 20.
The Eureka Herald contacted local pastors and their churches in an effort to provide the following information on services and other happenings scheduled for this special season.
*The Ministerial Alliance’s Community Good Friday Service will be held at the On This Rock Church, located at 717 N. Main Street, in Eureka on Friday, April 18 at 12 p.m. Pastor Larry Evans will be delivering the message.
Christ Lutheran Church 315 N. Elm, Eureka and Upper Fall River
A mid-week Lenten Bible study will be held on Wednesdays with soup at Christ Lutheran Church (CLC) in Eureka. Palm Sunday services will be held on Sunday, April 13, at Upper Fall River (UFR) Church at 8:30 a.m. and at CLC at 10:30 a.m. Maundy Thursday will be held with the Eureka United Methodist Church at CLC on Thursday, April 17, at 6:30 p.m. CLC will host Good Friday services on Friday, April 18, at 6:30 p.m. Easter Sunrise service will be held at UFR at 7 a.m.; with Coffee and Donuts being served at CLC at 9:30 a.m. those attending are welcome to bring casseroles or fruit if desired. Easter service will follow at 10:30 a.m.
Eureka United Methodist Church 521 North Main, Eureka
Eureka UMC will hold their Palm Sunday service on Sunday, April 13 at 9:30 a.m., where members of the Kid’s Club will sing.
Sunrise Service will be held at 7 a.m. on Sunday, April 20 at Eureka City Park. Easter Sunday worship will begin at 9:30 a.m. with an Easter Egg hunt to follow worship, at approximately 10:30 a.m.
Jefferson Street Baptist Church 300 S. Jefferson, Eureka
The Jefferson Street Baptist Church (JSBC) will host their annual Easter service on Sunday, April 20, at 10:45 a.m. Sunday School will be held at 9:30 a.m. JSBC also invites the community to join them on Tuesdays for Ladies Bible Study at 9 a.m.; on Wednesdays for Bible Student and Children in Action at 6 p.m.; on Thursdays for Men’s Gathering at 6 p.m. and on the second and fourth Thursdays for Christian Jam at 6 p.m.
Neal Evangelical Free Church (located on Highway 54 and Neal)
Neal Evangelical Free Church invites all to join them as they honor the Resurrection of Jesus Christ through the following services and events: On Sunday, April 13, Palm Sunday: Services begin at 10 a.m. and will feature the “Procession of the Palms.” The morning will begin with a time of worship by the children if the congregation, who will lead off the morning worship. All children, no matter their age, are welcome to participate in the “Procession with live Palms” branches.
On Friday, April 18, Good Friday Service: A Good Friday service entitled, “We Remember,” will be held at 7:30 p.m. Come share this time to commemorate the death and burial of our Lord with song, the Word and Communion.
On Sunday, April 20, Easter Sunday: Sunrise Service will begin at 6:30 a.m., entitled, “He Is Risen, He Is Risen, Indeed,” at the Cross on the Neal Church grounds. Easter Breakfast will immediately follow and will be served in the Church basement. Easter Worship Service will be held at 10 a.m. The congregation will celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus with the presentation: “It’s All About the Cross of Jesus Christ,” including music and a message from the Word of God. Please note, no Sunday School classes will be held on Easter Sunday.
Greenwood County Catholic Churches
Eureka Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Hamilton St. John Catholic Church and Madison St.Teresa of Avila
Sacred Heart Catholic Church will host a Palm Sunday Penance Service at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 13, at 3 p.m. Holy Thursday Mass will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, with Good Friday Liturgy being held on Friday, April 18, at 7 p.m. Easter Sunday Mass will be held on Sunday, April 20, at 11 a.m.
St. John Catholic Church, in Hamilton, will host Easter Vigil on Friday, April 19 at 8:30 p.m.
St. Teresa Catholic Church, Madison, will host Easter Sunday Mass 8 a.m.
Reece Christian Church
1303 E. 40 Road
The Reece Christian Church will hold a Sunrise service, TBD, behind the fire station next to the ReApril 20, with breakfast at the church following the service. Easter service will be held at the church at 11 a.m.
