The Eureka Area Girl Scout Troops made their second annual donation to the local food pantry, recently.
Area girl scouts made Christmas ornaments and decorated a tree at Eureka Garden & Floral where they had a donation box and the customers donated any amount they wished in exchange for an ornament. Girl Scouts then used the funds raised to purchase food for the local food pantry.
This year, the Eureka Girl Scout Troops collected $400 and went shopping for the food to donate. The Girl Scouts met Ava Jones, who helps with the local food pantry at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, located 1710 E. River Street, to drop off the food. Jones also explained how the food pantry works for those in need in the community. Jones noted that the local food bank served 66 families the week the Girl Scouts donated. The food pantry is open the first and second Monday each month from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The area girl scouts decided to wait until after the holidays to do their shopping as it was reported the food bank receives more donations during the holiday season.
