Lady Tornadoes Claimed First Round Sub-State Victory Over Herington

On Friday, Feb. 28, the Eureka Lady Tornadoes hosted the Herington Railers for the first round of Sub-State. In a dominating performance from start to finish, the Tornadoes saw the victory, 7632, over the Railers and advanced to the second round.

Eureka put the pedal to the metal from the get go, opening the game with a 13-0 run. Herington knocked down a three-pointer to put an end to it, but Elle Coulter immediately matched it with a triple of her own. The Tornadoes went full throttle in the first half. On the defensive end, they had Herington’s offense in shambles–forcing countless turnovers with their 10 steals and 8 deflections. Eureka was indomitable on the offensive end, lengthening the scoring gap to 34-19 by the time halftime rolled around.

The Tornadoes were relentless in the second half, firing off on all cylinders and extending their lead to 76-32. Coulter put on quite the performance on offense, scoring a career high of 23 points during the competition. Laynie Winfrey collected a great stat line and drained her fourth buzzer beater of the season at the end of the third quarter. Sydney Lindamood was a spark off the bench with 10 points. The collective effort of the Lady Tornadoes brought them the victory over the Railers.

Stats and Scoring Leaders: POINTS: Coulter 23, Winfrey 18, Britta Mongeau 12, Lindamood 10, Lydia Mason 5, Kimber Ptacek and Alaina Westerman 4, and Jersey Cox 2. REBOUNDS: Winfrey 8, Ptacek and Mongeau 6, and Westerman and Hannah Perrier 5. ASSISTS: Winfrey 6, Arabella Shepherd 5, and Mongeau and Coulter 4.

STEALS: Winfrey, Ptacek, and Mason 4.

The Tornadoes will make the trek to Cherokee Southeast on Wednesday, March 5 to match up against the Lancers in the second round of Sub-State.
