The Madison Bulldogs kick off sub-state action this week as the boys (#5) were slated to host Allen-Northern Heights (#12) on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. The Lady Bulldogs (#4) received a bye and will host the winner of the Gossel (#5) vs. Allen- Northern Heights (#12) game on Saturday, March 1, at 7 p.m.
To conclude regular season action, the Bulldogs faced Chase County and Lyndon last week, where Madison came away with three of the four victories.
To start the week, Madison battled Chase County, where both teams came away with a victory.
Despite a second half comeback, free throws in overtime action would ultimately choose the fate for the Lady Bulldog matchup between Madison and Chase County.
Madison may have trailed 16-22 at halftime, but they were able to tie the game at 36 to force overtime action. Madison’s Jalynn Weakley would find the basket twice, but Chase County was sent to the charity stripe multiple times which resulted in five free throws made and a 40-45 loss for the Bulldogs of Madison. Scoring for Madison were Weakley 14, Jenna Thomsen 12, Caylin Luthi 9, Kam White 3 and Sadie Albert 2.
The Madison boys trailed 18-19 at halftime but outscored Chase County by 10 in the third to claim a 3728 lead going into the final quarter. Although Chase County closed the gap, it wasn’t enough and Madison claimed a 48-46 victory. Scoring for Madison were Colton Isch 20, Octavian Dean 17, Cory Yowell 8 and Brayden Grimmett 3.
Against Lyndon, the Lady Bulldogs claimed a 14--12 lead after the first and never looked back, holding the lead throughout the game and won 50-43. Scoring for the Lady Bulldogs were Weakley 18, Luthi 13, Thomsen 12, Candice Ashlock 4 and Sadie Albert 2.
The Madison boys also claimed the lead after the first, leading 17-10 after the first and continued throughout the game, leading 33-17 at half and 50-28 after three. Madison won the game 5944. Scoring for Madison were Dean 30, Isch 16, Lane Smith 5, Will Grimmett 4, Yowell 3 and Cade Hurlburt 1.
