Tough Week For West Elk Patriots Boys Basketball

The West Elk boys basketball team had a tough and busy week last week, going 0-3.

West Elk first faced Flinthills on Tuesday, Feb. 11. Despite leading at halftime 27-20, the Patriots were outscored on in the third and fourth quarters 8-17 and 16-18 and fell to the Mustangs, 51-55. Scoring for the Patriots were Maddex Moreno 17, Garett Usry 11, Kase Kill 9, Peyton Fechter 6, Jacen Gaston and Jaxson Bogdahn each with 3 and Trent Haag 2.

On Thursday, Feb. 13, the Patriots faced Burlingame. West Elk trailed throughout the game but outscored Burlingame in the fourth quarter, 17-8 but fell 40-54. Scoring for the Patriots were Moreno 17, Usry 11, Kill 7, Bogdahn 3 and Jared Tucker 2.

To conclude the week, West Elk faced Oxford on Friday, Feb. 14. The Patriots led after the first, 14-11, but slowly watched the lead fade as the game progressed. At halftime, West Elk trailed 28-31 and were down 46-51 at the end of third. The Patriots lost the game 64-67. Scoring for West Elk were Usry 20, Moreno 18, Kill 11, Gaston 6, Haag 5 and Fechter 4.

West Elk is scheduled to travel to Argonia this Friday, Feb. 21 before beginning Sub-State week, Feb. 27.
