To Serve As Superintendent/7-12 Principal At Madison/Virgil USD 386

After interviewing three potential candidates, the Madison/Virgil USD 386 Board of Education approved to hire Dallas Woolf as the next Superintendent and 7-12 principal for the district during a special board meeting on Thursday, Feb. 13. He will officially begin the new role on July 1.

Superintendent Woolf has been in education for 23 years; seven in the classroom and 16 in administration. Current Superintendent Tammy Baird stated, “Mr. Woolf brings a wealth of experience. He currently serves as principal at Russell High School (USD 407) and has held various leadership roles at Stafford (USD 349) and Hoisington (USD 431), including curriculum director, principal, and athletic director. He earned his Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from Friends University and district-level licensure from Emporia State University.”

She continued, “Woolf’s expertise in curriculum, career and technical education, early childhood programs, and community partnerships will be invaluable in leading Madison-Virgil, USD 386. His focus on student success, relationship-building, and expanding career pathways will help prepare our students for academic, athletic, and postsecondary success. We look forward to his leadership and the bright future ahead for our district!”

Others being interviewed for the position were Lewis Whitson, current K-12 Principal at Hartford-Neosho Rapids and Amy Ricks, current Superintendent at Bucklin.

Board of Education Monthly Meeting The Madison/Virgil USD 386 board of education meets on the second Monday of each month. The following report was generated from the unofficial minutes, which are subject to board approval.

President Dallas Luthi called the Feb. 10 meeting to order at 7 p.m.

Ashley Redeker and Liz Kusmaul presented the 2025-2026 school calendar option, voted on by the teachers. The calendar was later approved as presented, 5-1, with board member Ty Gaines voting no.

Sarah Luthi requested school transportation for After Prom, which was later approved.

The board approved putting excess Jump Start money, if any, in a savings account at Citizens State Bank.

The business by consent agenda, including the Current Accounts Payable, totaling $133,401.89; the Treasurer’s Report; and the Activity Fund Report, were approved.

The board approved the January regular and February Special board meeting minutes and the agenda, with an update.

Information item updates were: Maintenance, Legislative, Food Service, Transportation and KESA.

Principal Amanda Schild gave updates on Madison Elementary School activities, including the spelling bee and Near and Dear day.

Superintendent Amanda Baird gave updates to the Board on Madison Junior/ Senior High School activities, including upcoming state assessments.

Three executive sessions, totaling 55 minutes, were held for non-elected personnel matters, with the board and administration. No action was taken.

The next monthly meeting for the Madison USD 386 Board of Education is Monday, March 10 at 7 p.m.
