Claimed Top Honors At Greenwood County Spelling Bee

The Greenwood County Spelling Bee went just five rounds last Thursday, Feb. 6, with Marshall Elementary’s Tucker Damron claiming the championship.

Damron correctly spelled “gaggle,” “irrigation,” “truncate,” “ligament” and “university” and was named the Greenwood County Spelling Bee champion. He will represent the county on Saturday, March 22 at the State Spelling Bee in Salina.

A total of 21 spellers competed at the county contest last Thursday, eight from Eureka and Madison and five from Hamilton. Ten spellers misspelled their words in the first round and seven missed theirs in the second, leaving just four spellers vying for the title.

Baxter misspelled her word in the fourth round and both Henke and Stitt misspelled their final words in the fifth round.

Representing Madison USD 386 were Henke, Huxley Bellinger, Brynn Hamilton, Kyriana Williams, Hiatt Seaton, Zander Suggs, Landon Metzen and Oakleigh Young.

Representing Eureka USD 389 were Damron, Baxter, Rose Larsen, Tenlee Boles, Bronwyn Hall, Casen Wamsher, Kasen DelPozzo and Stitt.
