Patriot basketball had a busy week last week, facing Bluestem on Monday, Central on Tuesday and Caldwell on Friday. West Elk swept Central and the Bluejays of Caldwell last week and split victories with Bluestem.
The Patriots hosted Caldwell last Friday, Feb. 7, for their Winter Homecoming event, where both Patriot teams claimed victorious.
In Lady Patriot action, both teams were tied at 7 after the first, with Caldwell claiming the edge in the second quarter. The Patriots trailed 14-15 going into intermission. But, it was the Lady Patriots who would claim the edge in the second half. With one quarter remaining, the lady Patriots led 20-19. West Elk went on to have their best quarter in the final stanza, defeating the Bluejays 30-23. Scoring for the Patriots were Jaicey Tillapaugh 12, Emily Mott 6, Kylie Beougher 4, Josey Toon 3, Ava Denton and Kira Tillapaugh each with 2 and Nevaeh Tillapaugh 1.
The West Elk boys dominated over the Bluejays, in a 60-27 win. The Patriots claimed an early 14-6 lead and ran over the Bluejays in the second, going on a 28-9 scoring spreed to lead 42-15 at the break. West Elk continued the momentum in the third to lead 54-23 going into the final quarter. The Patriots won the game 60-27. Scoring for West Elk were Maddex Moreno 17, Garett Usry 16, Kase Kill 10, Trent Haag and Jacen Gaston each with 4, Jaxson Bogdahn 3 and Trace Toon, Peyton Fechter and Gage Cook all with 2.
Central
On Tuesday, Feb. 4, the Patriots battled Central, with both Patriot teams claiming the win.
The Lady Patriots defeated Central, 38-37. Scoring for West Elk were Mott 12, Beougher 9, Denton 4, J. Toon and N. Tillapaugh each with 3, Hailey McKibbon 2 and Lillian Triboulet 1.
Patriot boys edged over Central throughout the game. West Elk led 10-9 after the first and 21-19 after half. The Patriots held on to the two-point lead in the third, moving into the final quarter 30-28. West Elk went on to win the game 4541. Scoring for the Patriots were Usry 15, M. Moreno 14, Kill 8, Fechter 4 and Gaston and Bogdahn each with 2.
Bluestem
West Elk hosted Bluestem on Monday, February 3, where the teams split victories.
The Lady Patriots fell 31-42. Scoring for West Elk were Mott 13, Beougher 10, J. Toon 4, Triboulet and Denton each with 2 and K. Tillapaugh 1.
West Elk’s boys claimed a 48-6 win over the Lions, only allowing one basket and a one freethrow in both the first and second half. The patriots led 30-3 at halftime. In the third, the Patriots outscored Bluestem 16-1 to lead 46-4 going into the final quarter. Both teams added two in the final stanza, giving the Patriots a 48-6 victory. Scoring for West Elk were M. Moreno 17, Usry 7, Haag 6, T. Toon and Kill each with 4 and Gaston, Fechter, Jacob Tucker and Roman Moreno all with 2.

The Patriots basketball teams will host Burlington on Thursday, Feb. 13, at 5 p.m., before traveling to Oxford on Friday, Feb. 14. Games are slated to begin at 4 p.m.
