Lady Tornadoes Neill & Owings Named TVL Champions
Members of the Eureka Tornado wrestling teams traveled to Erie on Tuesday, Feb. 4 for the annual Tri-Valley League tournament. Lady Tornado junior Harlie Owings and sophomore Maela Neill pinned their way to championship finishes. The duo will represent Eureka this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 14 and 15, at Rossville for the 3-1A Regional. The top 8 in each weight division will advance to state competition in Hays, Feb. 28-March 1.
Following are the individual match results for Eureka participants at the TVL contest: 125: Maela Neill (20-12) placed 1st. She won by fall over Lillee Merryman (Caney Valley Girls) 4-14 (Fall 0:35); and won by fall over Alexis Graham (Cherryvale Girls) 4-5 (Fall 0:46).
170: Harlie Owings (247) placed 1st. She won by fall over Willow Lacrone (Humboldt Girls) 1713 (Fall 0:40); and won by fall over Victoria Grado (Fredonia Girls) 16-5 (Fall 3:41).
113: Mason Hughes (21-7) placed 2nd. He won by fall over Trenton Grimm (Cherryvale Boys) 15-8 (Fall 0:41); and lost by fall to Aiden Wilson (Erie Boys) 12-3 (Fall 0:45).
157: Dominik Gulick (17) placed 6th. He lost by fall to Dylan Kirkpatrick (Erie Boys) 6-7 (Fall 0:53); received a bye; lost by fall to Terrence Lowry (Neodesha Boys) 5-3 (Fall 1:32); and lost by fall to Grady Elder (Humboldt Boys) 1-2 (Fall 2:14).
