SEKLS Representatives Participated At Legislative Day

Representatives from the Southeast Kansas Library System (SEKLS) participated in the Kansas Library Association’s Library Legislative Day at the state capitol in Topeka on Jan. 28. While there, they attended an address by Representative Adam Smith and met with available legislators who represent SEKLS’s service area, including Representative Bradley Barrett, Representative Doug Blex, Representative Ron Bryce, Senator Michael Fagg, Representative Fred Gardner, Representative Dan Goddard, Representative Rick James, Senator Virgil Peck, Senator Tim Shallenburger, Representative Chuck Smith and Senator Caryn Tyson.

In these meetings, SEKLS advocated for continued support of Kansas libraries and shared documents including Community Impact Stories written by member libraries and the 2025 System Plan, which is available for review at sekls.org.

The SEKLS is one of seven regional systems established by statute in 1965 to support and improve library service throughout the state. SEKLS seeks to fulfill this mission through professional development, financial support, technol resource sharing, and consulting. These efforts help libraries in Southeast Kansas provide their communities with early literacy initiatives, broadband access, programs for all ages, and more.

Questions about the System can be directed to Sharon Moreland, Director, at smoreland@sekls. org.
