Five West Elk Patriot wrestlers traveled to Fredonia last Saturday, Feb. 1, where three of them competed in the finals.
Freshman Welch Murphy and seniors Josh Patteson and Boedy Murphy all claimed second place at the annual tournament.
Following are the individual match results for West Elk participants: 106: Welch Murphy (168) placed 2nd. He won by fall over Jameson Fetters (Council Grove HS/Allen- Northern Heights HS) 10-11 (Fall 2:46); and lost by fall to Ethan Worthington (Andover Central HS) 14-5 (Fall 0:45).
175: Landon Wunderlich (11-8) placed 5th. He won by fall over Jacob Novotny (Neodesha HS) 12-12 (Fall 2:52); lost by fall to Riley Queen (Halstead HS) 14-9 (Fall 1:11); lost a 5-10 decision to Bobby Sands (Andover Central HS) 10-15; and won by fall over Jacob Novotny (Neodesha HS) 12-12 (Fall 3:43).
190: Boedy Murphy (174) placed 2nd. He won a 10-2 major decision over McCoy Cody (Neodesha HS) 9-10; won a 10-5 decision over Cameron Hagemann (Council Grove HS/ Allen-Northern Heights HS) 7-12; and lost by fall to Cole Mathes (Humboldt HS) 29-3 (Fall 1:54).
215: Joshua Patteson (20-8) placed 2nd. He won by fall over Ryan Reid (Fredonia HS) 2-8 (Fall 0:32); won by fall over Ben Rhodes (Erie HS) 3-2 (Fall 2:33); and lost by fall to Ace Monihen (Council Grove HS/Allen-Northern Heights HS) 26-2 (Fall 3:07).
285: Edward Metcalf (725) placed 5th. He lost by fall to Ramon Ballin (Iola HS) 7-9 (Fall 4:09); lost by fall to Connor Herman (Halstead HS) 27-4 (Fall 0:53); lost by fall to Colton Babcock (Neodesha HS) 18-8 (Fall 0:44); and lost by fall to Tyler Hutchinson (Council Grove HS/Allen- Northern Heights HS) 27-4 (Fall 0:36).

The Patriot wrestling team will travel to Iola on Thursday, Feb. 6 before competing at the Three Rivers League Tournament on Feb. 11. West Elk wrestlers will return to Fredonia on Feb. 21-22 for Regional action. The top four in each category will advance to the state tournament on Feb. 28-March 1.
