JH Tornadoes To Compete In TVL Basketball Tournament

The Eureka Tornado junior high basketball teams will conclude their season this week during the Tri-Valley League tournament.

Games began on Monday of this week in Leon. The junior high Tornadoes will battle in Galesburg on Thursday. Championship games will be held on Saturday, with the location to be determined.

Neodesha

Last week, the Tornadoes traveled to Neodesha on Monday, Jan. 27. Eureka went 1-5 against the Bluestreaks, with the Tornado A-team boys claiming the lone victory.

The A-team boys claimed an early 14-6 lead and continued to edge over the Bluestreaks in the next three quarters. At halftime, the Tornadoes led 24-14. With one quarter remaining, Eureka was ahead by 10, 35-25. The Tornadoes went on to win the game 46-39. Scoring for Eureka were Eli Mason 15, Christian Sanchez 11, Wacey Ross 9, JaKolby Robbins 4, Cash Escareno 3 and Tate Scott and Maddox Hughes each with 2.

Eureka’s B-team boys trailed 3-11 after the first and couldn’t overcome the deficit. The Tornadoes trailed 8-15 at the break and 13-19 going into the final stanza. Eureka lost the game 18-25. Scoring for Eureka were Dylan Conard 5, Cord Adkins 4, Henry Perrier 3, Hughes and Gavin Gonzales each with 2 and Liam Mead and Donovan Owings each with 1.

The Tornado C-team lost 11-21. Scoring for the Tornadoes were Adkins 6 and Owings 5.

In Lady Tornado action, Eureka struggled against the Bluestreaks. Together the A and B-teams tallied 17 points. Eureka’s A-team lost 8-41. Scoring for the Tornadoes were Kaylee Palmer, Andee Weatherby, Celona Hall and McKenna McDonald all with 2.

Eureka’s B-team lost to the Bluestreaks, 9-34. Scoring for Eureka were Weatherby 4, Alivia Hare 3 and McDonald 2.

Fredonia

On Thursday, Jan. 30, the junior high Tornadoes hosted Fredonia, where they split with the Yellowjackets.

In Lady Tornado action, Eureka held the Yellowjackets scoreless in the first, leading 6-0. Fredonia closed the gap to 3 in the second. Both teams added 2 in the third, but Eureka held onto a 14-11 lead going into the final quarter. The Tornadoes weren’t able to add a basket in the final quarter and lost the game 14-16. Scoring for Eureka were Bella Damron 7, Amorette Guillaume 4, McDonald 2 and Weatherby 1.

Eureka’s B-team ladies tailed 2-6 after one, 6-10 after two and 12-16 after three. The Lady Tornadoes lost the game 18-22. Scoring for the Lady Tornadoes were Palmer 8, Weatherby 6 and Guillaume 4.

The Tornado junior high boys went 2-0 over Fredonia. In A-team action, the Tornadoes claimed a 9-4 lead in the first quarter. Eureka was outscored in the second but maintained a 13-12 lead at the intermission. The Tornadoes came out strong in the third, outscoring Fredonia 14-9. Eureka continued the momentum in the fourth, outscoring the Yellowjackets 11-5, to win the game 38-26. Scoring for Eureka were Ross 17, Scott 11, Sanchez 6 and Mason 4.

Eureka’s B-team boys dominated the first quarter with a 10-0 lead over the Yellowjackets. The Tornadoes led 14-2 after two and 22-4 at the end of the third. Eureka went on to win the game 28-8. Scoring for the Tornadoes were Adkins 10, Asher Euler 8, Henry Perrier 4 and Mead, Felix Neill and Brandon Cornett all with 2.
