This coming Monday, field trial participants from across the nation and Canada will visit the Eureka area for the 36th annual National field trials.

This coming Monday, field trial participants from across the nation and Canada will visit the Eureka area for the 36th annual National field trials.

Braces will begin at the Bechtle Ranch on October 16, with the German Shorthair Pointer Club of America National Field Trial. Braces will continue until November 4.

Following the GSPCA trials, the Gordon Setters Club of America will hold their trial at the Bechtle Ranch from November 5-12. Beginning this Friday, October 13 through 15, the Sunflower GSPCA, will hold their trial in Howard. The Southern Kansas Brittany Club will start their field trials at the Bill Oliver Ranch and continue through October 20.

In 1988, Irlene Huntington answered a newspaper ad that spurred interest, contacts were made and that fall the trials were held at the Christian Hills Camp in Eureka. They remained at that location until 2002. That same fall, Roger and Erica Bechtel made their ranch available and this national event continued in Greenwood County.

In the past, all 50 states and Canada have been represented at the annual Field Trial event. This event will last approximately 20 days, weather permitting.

Cast off will be at 7:30 or 8 a.m. with the announcement being made the evening prior. Each day the events will conclude approximately between 4 and 4:30 p.m.

All are welcome to attend the braces, as well as a special dinner to kick-off the annual event on Sunday, October 15, at approximately 6:30 p.m., at the Bechtle Ranch.

Breakfast and lunch are available for purchase at both locations.
