The family of Lois French has requested a card shower in honor of her 100th birthday, Thursday, Jan. 30.
She was born Jan. 30, 1925, on the farm of her parents, 16 miles southeast of Eureka.
French grew up with a great love of horses and cattle, helping her father from an early age.
She later raised winning quarter horses and Hereford cattle, with her husband Murray.
She led the parade of racehorses to the gates at Eureka Downs for many years in the 50s and 60s. At that same time, she began taking night classes offered by El Dorado Junior College in Art, and later studied with Laurence Coffelt. Together they showed and sold art at the Kansas Livestock Conservation in Wichita. Her western paintings have been sold to collectors from most states in the United States.
In 1962, she bought an accounting business and earned an accounting degree, while building the business. She operated this business on Main St., in Eureka, where she also displayed and sold her oil paintings for approximately 45 years.
French is pictured above leading the racehorses in 1958 with her favorite Palomino.
Cards may be sent to her at 1821 90th Street, Eureka, KS 67045.
