Eight Advance To Greenwood County Spelling Bee

After 24 rounds and 224 words, Eureka USD 389 crowned sixth grader Tucker Damron as the 2025 district champion, last Thursday, Jan. 16. The district spelling bee lasted approximately two hours as 23 spellers competed at the district spelling bee.

The contest was down to four spellers after 13 rounds, with just two competing for the championship title from round 19. Damron, son of Garett Damron and Tamara Damron both of Eureka, correctly spelled “world,” “enjoy,” “trace,” “berries,” showed,” “scribbly,” “solution,” “snicker,” “mistake,” “jumbled,” “natural,” “reunion,” “biology,” “bowler,” “voyage,” “ballerina,” “soldier” and “infinite,” to claim the title.

Eureka Junior/Senior High School (EJSHS) eighth grader Rose Larsen was named runner-up.

Others competing at the district bee were: fourth graders, Haidyn Evenson, Cooper McElroy, Ike Whitehead, Easton Zeckser, Carter Ring; fifth graders, Regan Dunn, Carson Shaw, Korbynn Yerion; sixth graders Khloe Crisswell, Nyky Ovalle; seventh grader Marcus Clark, Bryson Gilbert, Donovan Owings, Landon Bumgardner and Asher Euler.

The Greenwood County Spelling Bee is slated for Thursday, Feb. 6, at 9 a.m., at Hamilton USD 390.
