Fall River City Council

The Fall River City Council meets monthly on the second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. The following report was generated from the approved minutes of the Dec. 9, 2024 meeting minutes, which were approved at their Jan. 8 meeting.

The regular meeting of the Fall River City Council was called to order on Dec. 9, 2024 at 7:02 p.m. by President Jim Cude with Council Members Sue York, Lori McCaffree and Norma Jones attending. Also present were Christy Walta, City Clerk; John Schouten, Water Manager/Fire Chief and Alleen VanBebber, City Attorney who appeared via phone.

The Nov. 18, 2024 meeting minutes, Treasurer’s report and bills were approved as presented.

During discussion, Haskell Fogle reported on the gas station; patchwork has been done to some potholes but it was noted that more were needing done; cost for the Salt Springs grader driver was discussed; locks to the Community Building have been changed and keys have been checked out and a letter was received regarding Federal resources and funding that will be posted at City Hall.

Water Manager Schouten reported no new activity. A new service request and installation schedule was discussed. Schouten also gave a fire report and discussed meeting with Greenwood County Rural Fire Chief Glen Collinge in regards to concerns in the south portion of the county.

During the library report, York reported the project to buy a book for every child before Christmas is in progress with a total of 57 kids included. The Scholastic Group has helped with shipping. Books should arrive Dec. 20 and they will be wrapped before distribution. Posters will be put up to announce when children can begin picking them up at the library.

In old business, Ordinance 283 concerning the day of the month the City Council meeting (second Wednesday) was approved.

The next meeting of the Fall River City Council will be held on Feb. 12 at the Community Building.
