Howard City Council

Mayor Richard Clark called the Howard City Council meeting to order with councilmembers Martin Hunter, Shilo Crupper, Derek Cookson, Gary Harrod and Jerrad Pope present. Also present were Zaven Crupper and City Clerk Joanna Hunter.

The Dec. 2, 2024 meeting minutes and city bills in the amount of $46,011.50 were approved. It was also approved to pay any outstanding December bills before the January meeting for accounting purposes.

Other items approved were: 2025 membership in League of Kansas Municipalities; 2025 CMB license for Connie Avalos DBS Sweet & Spicy; to consent Garden Plain joining the KMGA membership; to approve the DOT annual consortium fees as presented by UCI Testing; to put the 2001 Dodge truck and the Allis tractor in a Spring Auction; to purchase new faces for 6 stop signs in storage; and to approve the appointment of Julia Brenner to serve on the Howard Housing Authority Board to complete an unexpired term, expiring May 16, 2026.

Other discussion included: Increasing the Cox building rent to $30 per side per day or $50 for both sides to be considered in January; lights for the awning at the Cox Building to be dusk to dawn LED type; Storage container at the lake to be moved to city property in town; Mowers to be serviced over winter; Options for 2024 bookkeeping completion; 2023 Audit and Flooring projects were both completed last week; and ARPA funds will be fully obligated before Dec. 31, 2024 as required.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:53 pm. The next meeting of the Howard City Council is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 20, at 7:30 pm at City Hall.
