Winter Storm Closed Majority Of Highways

The first winter storm of 2025 came with a vengeance on Saturday, Jan. 4 and continued to cause havoc through Monday, Jan. 6.

The majority of the highways were closed due to icy road and snow drift conditions.

Three accidents were reported in Greenwood County, two being rollover accidents. All three occurred on Saturday, Jan. 4.

The first accident occurred, approximately 3 miles west of Reece on Highway 54 at 9:58 a.m. No injuries were reported.

The next two accidents were rollovers. At 10:51 a.m., the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office received the report of a semi rollover on US400 Highway, approximately five miles east of the Greenwood/ Butler County line. No injuries were reported.

The third accident occurred at 11:34 a.m., on Highway 54, near H Road. This accident was also a rollover, however, no injuries were reported.

All three accidents were believed to have been caused by weather and icy road conditions.

There were no slide-offs reported to the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office.

Freezing temperatures are expected to continue through the first part of the week.
