Greenwood County’s Newest Extension Agent

A position that has been vacant for just shy of two years is now filled. On Monday of this week, Alisha Fisher took on the Family and Community Wellness agent role for Greenwood County.

Fisher, who grew up in rural southeast Nebraska, recently acquired her Master’s degree in Nutrition and Health Sciences with a Specialization in Community Nutrition and Health Promotion from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in December 2024. She earned her undergraduate degree in 2021 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Neb. While attending school, she has been active in outside organizations. During high school, while playing sports, she was also active in 4-H and FFA. At college, she was involved in her sorority Alpha Gamma Delta and held various positions in her chapter and on the Panhellenic Council.

“For the last year and a half, I have been working with Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln through a grant from AmeriCorps to teach nutrition and lead physical activity for elementary-aged students at Title 1 schools in Lincoln, Neb.,” stated Fisher. “In August, I started working at the Lancaster County Extension office (Lincoln, Neb.) as their Nutrition Education Program Intern which has allowed me to shadow various different programs as well as lead my own series of programs for a gap year program and a high school afterschool club,” she continued.

In the position, which became vacant in January 2023, Fisher will be responsible for 4-H and Youth Development programming development and implementation.

Fisher, who moved to Greenwood County with her two-year-old chocolate lab, Hubble, is excited to learn more about the Greenwood County community and utilize her knowledge and enthusiasm to foster growth. “I look forward to connecting with community members and offering support and guidance where needed,” stated Fisher. She joined the Greenwood County Extension team, along with Agent Ben Sims and Office Professional Kimberlee Fogle, on Monday, Jan. 6.
