The Emporia Community Foundation’s (ECF) Grants Committee recently met to review applications. Funding was provided to nine nonprofits, resulting in $22,300 in grant awards to benefit the greater Emporia area.
Each year the ECF accepts applications from agencies in Lyon, Chase, Coffey, Greenwood, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee for grants to fund innovative and creative community projects.
The grants, which are evaluated by the ECF Grants Committee, are for programs that are responsive to changing community needs in the areas of health, social service, education, recreation, and cultural affairs.
The grants are not designed as money for on-going projects or to augment operating funds, but rather to support undertakings that organizations want to initiate but lack the necessary funding for.
This year’s grantees are Boys & Girls Clubs of South-Central Kansas $3,000 for scholarships. Dwight Community Development Corporation - $3,000 for window replacements. Greenwood County Health Department - $2,500 for a Peek-A-Boo Pantry. Hamilton City Library - $3,000 for the purchase of computers. Imaginarium - $3,000 toward expansion efforts. Integrated Behavioral Technologies - $2,400 for an ABA Start Up Set for each child. Southern Lyon County Unified School District - $900 for the purchase of Slumberkins animals and books. Southwick House - $3,000 in support of the capital campaign for transitional housing. St. Mark’s Lutheran Church - $1,500 for handicap parking spaces.
As a community foundation, the ECF has, through donors and other funds, given away over $26 million since inception.
