Despite a commanding, 17-2 first quarter last Friday, Jan. 3, the West Elk boys basketball team fell to the Rockets of Rose Hill, 4548.
In the second, the Rockets doubled the Patriots to close the gap to just 8, 24-16.
West Elk would be outscored in the third, 11-13, but retained the six-point lead, 35-29, going into the final quarter in regulation.
The Patriots were unable to hold on to the lead and fell 45-48.
Scoring for West Elk were Maddex Moreno 21, Garett Usry 9, Jacen Gaston and Kase Kill each with 6 and Peyton Fechter 3.
