Toronto News

Christmas Day was a sad one in Toronto as we awoke to the sound of sirens and smoke filled the air as the house located at 108 N. Jack- son was on fire! Jimmy Ray Smith was the current owner of the house.

Many people in town know the house as Sowders house as that is where Kenny and Mary Sowder lived. Jim and his family escaped the fire, but lost everything. Fire- fighters from Woodson Coun ty were called out to help with the fire. Thankfully no one was hurt.

Question: What classic Looney Tunes character suffers from rhotacism?

Hello to all in area nursing and assisted living facilities. Hello also to all in area hospitals and rehab centers.

We offer our sympathy to the family of Linda Groomes and Bonnie Louise Bills. We offer our sympathy to all others who lost loved ones this past week. May they all rest in peace.

Answer: Remember when you were a child and spoke your “R’s” and they sounded like “W’s” and everyone thought it was cute? That’s known as rhotacism and some people live with it even as adults. An example of rhotacism would be Elmer Fudd’s pronunciation of “rabbit” as “wabbit.” The Looney Tunes character is notorious for his exaggerated rhotacistic speech (“Be vewwy quiet… I’m hunting wabbits”).

Well, that’s it for this year. Happy New Year to all.
