Three Eureka Tornado Wrestlers Placed At Jeff Giles Invitational

Eureka’s wrestling teams traveled to two meets this week. First, wrestlers competed in the Chase County Jamboree on Thursday, Dec. 12, where three wrestlers went undefeated. Tornadoes then made the trip to Minneapolis for the annual Jeff Giles Invitational where Eureka’s Maela Neill and Harlie Owings claimed second place honors and Mason Hughes claimed third.

Following are the individual match results for Eureka participants: Jeff Giles Invitational 125: Maela Neill (6-2) placed 2nd. She received a bye; won by fall over Camrun Taylor (Osborne HS) 3-4 (Fall 3:12); won by fall over Aubryn Just (Minneapolis HS) 5-4 (Fall 3:20); amd lost by fall to Sheyenne Pinkston (Whitewater- Remington HS) 8-1 (Fall 0:28).

190: Harlie Owings (42) placed 2nd. She won a 12-9 decision over Kyli Baylor (Chanute HS) 1-2; received a bye; won by fall over Faith Enger (Chapman) 8-2 (Fall 3:07); won by fall over Hannah James (Ellis HS) 1-5 (Fall 0:19); and lost by fall to Kiley Dillow (Chanute HS) 8-0 (Fall 1:04).

113: Mason Hughes (72) placed 3rd. He received a bye; won an 18-0 tech fall over Roman Spencer (Towanda-Circle HS) 1-4 (TF-1.5 3:06); lost by fall to Heero Franco (Salina- South HS) 4-4 (Fall 1:09); won by fall over Quinn Kymer (Concordia HS) 3-5 (Fall 3:46); and won by fall over Kegan Wheeler (Minneapolis HS) 2-2 (Fall 4:18).

190: Kadin Deshane (4-3) received a bye; lost a 3-13 major decision to Donte Miller (Salina-South HS) 3-5; received a bye; lost a 3-19 tech fall to Logan Squier (Leon-Bluestem HS) 3-2 (TF-1.5 5:35) 215: Ethan Bauer (5-3) received a bye; lost by fall to Max Johnson (Concordia HS) 6-4 (Fall 4:42); won by fall over Ryan Jackson (Salina-South HS) 2-5 (Fall 2:23); and lost a 4-9 decision to Noah Couey (Leon-Bluestem HS) 5-5.

138 JV: Fisher Hobbs (1-2) received a bye; lost a 4-10 decision to Aaron Cole (Russell HS/Sylvan-Lucas Unified HS) 1-4; received a bye; won by fall over Tucker Denning (Russell HS/ Sylvan-Lucas Unified HS) 0-2 (Fall 0:37); and lost a 3-4 decision to Rilee Lundine (Beloit HS) 2-2.

175 JV: Hunter Swartz (0-2) lost by fall to Elijah Kejr (Gypsum-Southeast of Saline HS) 2-2 (Fall 0:11); received a bye; and lost by fall to Ethan Fields (Concordia HS) 1-7 (Fall 0:39).

215 JV: Dash Gulick (03) placed 4th. He lost by fall to Ethan Hall (Chapman HS) 2-5 (Fall 5:13); lost by fall to Brady Roberts (Concordia HS) 6-2 (Fall 3:01); and lost by fall to Corbin Sparks-Beason (Salina-South HS) 3-0 (Fall 1:25).

Chase County Jamboree Women’s 125: Maela Neill went 2-1. She won by fall over Alexia Eubanks (Osage City) (Fall 0:41); won by fall over Aimee Kelley (Hillsboro) (Fall 1:19); and lost by fall to Remi Cain (Clearwater) (Fall 3:09).

Women’s 170: Harlie Owings went 3-0. She won by fall over Mariah Schneider (Horton) (Fall 0:30); won a 17-1 tech fall over Kaylee Long (Clearwater); and won by fall over Lexi Taylor (Chase County) (Fall 1:48).

Men’s 113: Mason Hughes went 3-0. He won by fall over Layken Peterson (Osage City) (Fall 0:18); won by fall over Aidan Johnson (Herington) (Fall 1:13); and won by fall over Edgar Gomez (Emporia) (Fall 2:23).

Men’s 138B: Fisher Hobbs went 2-0. He won by fall over Caleb Givens (Osage City) (Fall 0:46); and won by fall over Isaac Carolan (Solomon) (Fall 2:28).

Men’s 175B: Hunter Swartz went 0-2. He lost by fall to Hunter Matthews (Herington) (Fall 0:26); and lost by fall to Robert Casey (Hesston) (Fall 0:08).

Men`s 190: Kadin Deshane went 0-3. He lost a 3-13 major decision to Boedy Murphy (West Elk); lost by fall to Gavin Bowman (Douglass) (Fall 3:01); and lost by fall to Noah Martinez (Osage City) (Fall 1:05).

Men’s 215: Ethan Bauer went 1-2. He won by fall over Julio Peraza (Emporia) (Fall 1:01); lost by fall to Dallen Kanngiesser (Clearwater) (Fall 0:50); and lost by fall to Carter Green (Douglass) (Fall 0:42).

Men’s 215B: Dash Gulick went 2-1. He lost by fall to Jayden Morrison (West Franklin) (Fall 2:24); won by fall over Brayden Leer (Clearwater) (Fall 1:19); and received a bye.

Up Next

The JV boys were slated to compete at the Coffeyville Mixer on Monday, Dec. 16, with both teams competing in the Hoisington Tournament on Friday, Dec. 20, at 3 p.m.

The Tornadoes will resume action after the winter break on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025 in Burlington.
