WE Patriots Competed In Humboldt Pre-season Tournament

The West Elk Patriot basketball teams competed in the Humboldt pre-season basketball tournament last week. The Lady Patriots went 2-1 at the tournament claiming second place honors. The boys went 1-2.

West Elk faced Humboldt on Tuesday, Dec. 10, with the boys getting off to a slow start, trailing 6-16 after the first. The Patriots had their best scoring in the second, scoring 10 but allowed 25 points to trail 16-41 at halftime. The Patriots were outscored in the next two quarters and fell 30-60. Scoring for the Patriots were Peyton Fechter 10, Maddex Moreno 9, Garett Usry 7 and Trent Haag 4.

The Patriots then faced Erie on Thursday, Dec. 12, where the Patriot men led 8-7 after one and 25-17 at halftime. West Elk struggled in the third only adding 6 and their lead closed to just one, 31-30, with one quarter remaining in regulation. The Patriots were outscored in the fourth, 11-14, and lost the game 42-44. Scoring for West Elk were: M. Moreno 21, Usry 6, Jaxson Bogdagn 5, Kase Kill and Haag each with 4 and Gage Cook 2.

On Friday, Dec. 13, the Patriots faced Crest. Both teams scored double digits in three of the four quarters, in the boys game. The Patriots led 30-18 at halftime and went on to win the game 4641. Scoring for the Patriots were M. Moreno 18, Usry 7, Bogdahn 5, Kill 4, and Fechter, Toon and Haag all with 3.

Patriots being named to the All-Academic Team included: Bogdahn, Cook, Ava Denton, Maggie Denton, Fechter, Haag, Maggie Humphrey, Rachel Humphrey, Kill, M. Moreno, Roman Moreno, Mylie Nault, Josey Toon, Jacob Tucker, Jared Tucker, Trailyn Wiseman.

Individual game results were not available for the Lady Patriots at the time of publication.
