Howard City Council

The Howard City Council meets bimonthly on the first and third Mondays of the month. The following report was generated from the official minutes of the Nov. 18 meeting, which were approved during their most recent meeting on Dec. 2.

Mayor Richard Clark called the Nov. 18 meeting to order with council members Martin Hunter, Shilo Crupper, Derek Cookson, Gary Harrod and Jerrad Pope present, as well as City Clerk Joanna Hunter.

The council approved the following: Nov. 4 meeting minutes; city bills, totaling $11,268.47; to give Christmas bonuses on the November payroll with $100 for regular part-time employees and $200 for full-time employees; (the Howard City Library Board approved bonuses for the Library staff at $400 for director and $250 for each of the other four library employees at their meeting Nov. 13); to purchase a utility service vehicle from McPherson Car Connection, not to exceed $30,000; and to sign a contract for office software with EMC/Midwest Software Partners. Mayor Clark opened sealed bids for interest on the CD, which matures Nov. 22. The council approved moving the funds to a CD at Howard State Bank on the maturity date, with M. Hunter abstaining from the vote.

Other topics discussed include: Floor projects at the Cox Building and the city office had started and were expected to be completed the week of Nov. 18; the Generator is ready to be relocated from the Lake to the Cox building when weather permits; Cookson to review material options for the docks this week; Cox Building awning still waiting on bid; Check prices for 2025 street project to include Illinois and Walnut Streets; Gambler 500 request to hold an event at the lake the weekend of April 19, 2025 was approved with the request the participants be mindful to stay on the roads to avoid making ruts; Resident request for grab-bar on the outside of office door; Code compliance updates; Disposing of damaged items in storage at the Cox Building.

The meeting adjourned at 8:16 p.m.

The council will meet on Monday, Jan. 6, at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.
