Tornado Basketball Claimed Victory Over Sedan

The Eureka High School boys basketball team played the Sedan Blue Devils Friday night to open their season. The Tornadoes played well on both sides of the ball and ended up winning easily. The most important factor in the win was the Tornadoes turned the ball over only 12 times, which was a major improvement from last season.

The game began with a tight first quarter, with both teams trading shots and playing tough defense. In the second quarter, however, the Tornadoes absolutely crushed the Devils behind the shooting of senior Laken Valentine and junior Cole Ptacek. In addition to the offense, the Tornadoes forced eight Devil turnovers in the period. The Tornadoes went into halftime with a 19-point lead.

The second half belonged to junior Peyton Hare and sophomore Tyson Coon as that combination accounted for 17 of the Tornadoes’ points. Hare was unstoppable in the paint and Coon was able to score with relative ease by penetrating the paint. Additionally, the Tornadoes continued to play stout defense throughout the third period, before letting up slightly as the game was well in hand. Hare led the Tornadoes with 16 points, followed by Ptacek with 15 and Valentine with 1 2 . Coon and junior TJ Mills added 8 points each. Senior Tanner Biering scored 2 for the Tornadoes.
