Eight Tornado wrestlers traveled to El Dorado on Saturday, Dec. 6, for the second annual El Dorado Invitational.
“It was a good first weekend,” stated head wrestling coach Thomas Lowe. “We struggled at times but, definitely improved as the day went on.”
The team brought home a first place finish by sophomore Maela Neill and three second place medals by senior Ethan Bauer, junior Harlie Owings and sophomore Mason Hughes.
Eureka will travel to Chase County this Thursday, Dec. 12 for jamboree action before making the trip to Minneapolis for their annual tournament on Saturday, Dec. 14. The Junior Varsity Tornadoes will then travel to Coffeyville for a mixer on Dec. 16 before the varsity team travels to their final outing before the winter break, on Friday, Dec. 20 at Hoisington.
Following are the individual match results for the Eureka Tornadoes at El Dorado: 106/113: Mason Hughes (4-1) placed 2nd. He won by fall over Jameson Fetters (Council Grove) 4-2 (Fall 3:54); won by fall over Gomorrah McMurtrey (El Dorado) 0-4 (Fall 1:37); won a 20-13 decision over Nate Eck (Garden Plain) 2-3; won a 17-2 tech fall over Carter Bremer (Council Grove) 3-2 (4:21); and lost by fall to Christain Planansky (Chaparral) 4-0 (Fall 0:21).
175: Hunter Swartz (0-4) placed 9th. He lost by fall to DJ Mitchell (El Dorado) 4-1 (Fall 0:20); lost by fall to Brock Monson (Oxford) 2-3 (Fall 0:15); lost by fall to Von Williams (Chaparral) 5-0 (Fall 0:22); and lost by fall to Mason Bowman (Council Grove) 2-3 (Fall 0:39).
190: Kadin Deshane (4--1) placed 5th.
