Greenwood County Historical Society Board Held Meeting

The Dec. 3 meeting of the Greenwood County Historical Society board was called to order by President Mike Pitko.

Members present were: Kevin Hough, Kent Olson, Pitko, Gib Rhodes, Dana Mills, Dusty Booth and Rise Russin.

The minutes of the Oct. 1 board meeting were read. Hough moved to accept the minutes. Mills seconded. The motion passed.

Olson gave a report on the two bank accounts and investments. Mills made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report for October and November. Hough seconded. The motion passed.

There were 22 visitors in October from Kansas, Washington, Arizona, Florida, Colorado and Montana. Ten members of the Wichita Sculptors Guild visited the museum.

There were 31 visitors in November from Kansas, Oklahoma, and Mississippi.

In communications, the Greenwood County Commissioners approved the request for funds used in the operation of the museum.

Under old business, there was an update on the Claycomb School Project, with work to renew on Phase Two in early spring of 2025.

IdeaTek will be installing fiber for internet service in the very near future.

Gib Rhodes gave an update on the school program that himself, Bills and Linda Sobieski gave at the Hamilton Senior Center. The history of schools in Hamilton was the topic of the program. Approximately 50 people attended.

Under new business, the museum will be open from 12–6 p.m. on Dec. 7, in conjunction with Christmas activities in Eureka.

There was a significant increase in building insurance for 2025.

Election of Board members and the Executive Board was held with the following results: President, Pitko; First Vice President, Rhodes; Second Vice President, John Bills; Treasurer, Kent Olson; Secretary, Jan Stephens; Historian, Stan Skaer. Board of Directors: Rise Russin and Jamie Lindamood.

Pitko asked for a motion to adjourn. Hough made the motion. Rhodes seconded the motion. The motion passed.
