The Christmas Tree Quilt

Christmas Tree Quilt On Display At GCHS

The Christmas Tree Quilt, pictured above, is currently on display at the Greenwood County Historical Society Museum. The quilt was made around 1813 by an unknown maker in the Essick family in Pennsylvania and later brought to Kansas.

It was donated by Leda Bobbitt Essick Christleib in 1976.

The quilt is on the Christmas Tree pattern. It has a white background with trees of red and yellow. It is believed that the yellow was originally green and has changed over time.

It is hand quilted with a checkerboard pattern of horizontal and vertical lines in the body of the quilt. The border is done with triangular blocks and quilted with diagonal lines.

The quilt is backed and bound in white.
