The City of Eureka will be hosting an open house event on Dec. 9 from noon-6 p.m. at Memorial Hall. This is being held in celebration of the structure’s 100th anniversary and as a means of fundraising for continued rehabilitation efforts.
An art contest is being held in conjunction with the Memorial Hall celebration. Art of all media types (paintings, photos, sketches, etc.) featuring Memorial Hall is being accepted through Dec. 6. Current Mayor Stephen Coulter will be joined by former mayors for the City of Eureka to judge entries.
Contest entries will be on display Dec. 9. Enjoy cake and cookies as part of the centennial celebration, and join other members of the community on a tour of the historic structure.
Fundraising efforts will include a gift basket silent auction and commemorative 100-year ornaments. Pictures of silent auction items will be available for viewing on the City Facebook page prior to the event. Commemorative Christmas ornaments feature a memorial hall emblem and can be purchased or received through monetary donation for Memorial Hall. All donations are appreciated.
The day’s event will also feature a coloring contest. Entries are due Dec. 9. Participants will receive a certificate for a free ice cream cone from Lo Mar Drive-In, while supplies last.
Additional details regarding the Historic Veterans Memorial Hall will be included in next week’s edition.
